Calfa’s Support for ILARA

Since 2023, Calfa has been supporting the projects of ILARA and has renewed its commitment to our institute this year. In 2023–2024, this partnership allowed ILARA to offer classes in Classical Armenian taught by Agnès Ouzounian.
With a literary tradition spanning over a thousand years, Classical Armenian holds a distinctive place among Indo-European languages. Its written history dates back to the 5th century, when the creation of a unique alphabet laid the foundation for a rich and enduring literary heritage. Over the centuries, scholars have expanded this legacy, preserving knowledge and storytelling through historical chronicles, translations, and original works.
Founded in 2014, Calfa is a pioneer in the field of automatic transcription technology (OCR/HTR) for handwritten and printed texts in non-Latin scripts. With its team of artificial intelligence experts, it develops cutting-edge tools for digitising and analysing handwritten documents in diverse alphabets, opening up new research possibilities for scholars and cultural institutions alike.
