Discovering Chechen – Dagun Deniev (Université populaire du canton de Genève)
Chechen (glottocode: chec1245) is a language belonging to the East Caucasian family (also known as Nakh-Dagestani), specifically its Nakh group. It is spoken in Chechnya (with a population of 1.4 million) and in some neighbouring regions inhabited by Chechen subgroups, such as the Akki in Dagestan and the Kists in Georgia. The written form of Chechen emerged in the twentieth century, with the language being written using the Arabic, Latin, and Russian alphabets in succession.
